    The data is from June 2018 to May 2019, according to the sauce in the other comment. Hence, no surprise is the density of mining in China.

    How can one possibly know the locations of individual miners?

    The only thing we can know about a newly mined block is the mining pool which means this map should have about 20 points.

    Where is this map from? It shows a vast amount of miners still in China. I thought bitcoin mining was banned in china, hence why we’ve had such an influx of asics transferred to the US in the last year. I don’t doubt people are still mining in China against the law, but that’s a pretty concentrated amount according to this map that we don’t know where it comes from.
