After seeing other posts about Boracay I’ve added it to my list of places to travel, possibly sometime next year. What would you say is good/ bad about the island though? Is it expensive, high crime etc.

But, but, you can’t actually *pay* for anything with Bitcoin! (/s for sarcasm)

    Good work, Boracay!

Which app or whatever did you pay with?

This is pretty cool, I scanned the QR code half expecting there to be shenanigans, turns out, not really any shenanigans. Does the driver get the BTC directly? or is pouch converting it to PHP and then sending that to the driver?

Boracay was super fun when I was there back in 2012. How has it changed since then?

Just wondering: how the app (Pouch) gets the exchange rate.

I don’t know but imagine Bankgko Sentral NG Pilipinas maintains PHPUSD and someone (maybe the same bank, maybe Pouch.ph) gets BTCUSD from somewhere, calculates the BTCPHP crossrate and publishes it on the internet for the app.

The costs of calculating and providing the rates and maintaining liquidity are certainly passed along to customer in fees and spreads.

Glad to see adoption, hoping for more, but I think the “convenience” of paying for a cab ride with pesos via Bitcoin is higher than simply invoicing and paying with Bitcoin.

When did Boracay adopt BTC? That’s crazy awesome. Looks more functional than El Salvador rn.

I can’t wait to start seeing this in more developed countries. But this was the plan for Bitcoin, go and grow where it’s most needed, and the rest of the countries will soon fall victim to unsustainable printing of fiat and hyperinflation.

It doesn’t have to be a specific wallet, right? Do most businesses on the island accept standard lightning transactions usable with muun wallet, etc?

If anyone wants to tip this driver dude, scan the QR code in the vid which takes you to his Pouch account. Pay him over lightning! https://app.pouch.ph/TrikeDash
