Always check privacy options for new services and apps immediately after signing up.
One could also revise this title to be “If you have an account with anything, this setting is on by default!” and it’d probably be just as accurate.
Thank you. I just logged into my Coinbase account and sure enough, the setting to share my personal information was turned on, and of course I immediately turned it off.
Thanks! After all the fees they charge, they still default to treating us like the product; smh.
Force you to kyc then sell your info nice
Thanks Spongebobcaviar
One of Coinbase’s big sources of revenue is data mining. They have some sorry excuse for a chrome extension that does just that. Another reason not to use exchanges (don’t want to overpressure those who do if you’re still learning, just know that you should plan to get off of them once you’re comfortable)
In (insert any self custody solution) it doesn’t even exist.
If you buy no-KYC bitcoin there is no info to share with third parties.
They share that shit with Facebook and Google. Pure evil.
Who is stupid enough to have Coinbase account in 2023?
Thank you!
That does not matter. When you sign up, You arlready aggreed to share your information and on top of that they dont give a sheeet they will share it anyways.
Same with robinhood!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for the heads up!
They can’t do this, at least in the European Union, I’m pretty sure. I don’t know where OP is based but if anybody knows more about GDPR and the Cookie Law, please reply :D
Thanks for posting this! It’s so easy to forget to check privacy settings when signing up for anything. Pretty much every service or site we join will share user info with third party entities unless we opt out.
Thank you. It’s off now.
Imagine this resets every time you log out.
Everything you download has this turned on! Be smarter check out your options at least coinbase let’s you turn it off!
How much BTC do account holders get from Coinbase, for sharing their data ?
Fuck Coinbase! Going wexclusively with Swan from now on. That 10 day wait is hard though. Not your keys, not your coins.
welcome to the internet
Those fuckers
I turned that off 3 years ago
Thanks for the heads up just turned mine off
You’ve heard of Know Your Customer. Here’s a bit of Know Your Exchange.
Coinbase shareholder letter for Q4:
>When Coinbase went public, our goal was to operate at roughly break even across each crypto cycle. We have evolved our approach and are now setting our sights on positioning the company to generate Adjusted EBITDA in all market conditions.
Translation: they intend to earn not only during bull, but also bear market. And to do that, among other things, they gotta sell your data.
They also say,
>We founded Coinbase with a conscious choice that we would be the most trusted, and easiest to use crypto platform. We have prioritized prudent risk management and emphasized transparency with customers, market participants, and government authorities, all to help encourage the cryptoeconomy’s development.
Amusing. I wonder what would happen if they *didn’t* emphasise transparency with customers.
Oh also. You’ve rewarded these practices with $605 million in total revenue in last quarter alone.
Consider P2P.
So in reality, since it’s on by default, your information is already shared and setting it to off just means it will not be shared furthermore.
Is there a way to have it not share anything from the beginning?
I ask since I was thinking of creating an account on coinbase.
Suggestion: always read the fine print
coinbase.com/legal/user_agreement/united_states
It’s on by default on most services.
Fuck coinbase
Oh no! You’re kidding me? Are you wearing a tinfoil hat rn?
