Does anyone know of non-shitty exchanges that New Yorkers can use? My understanding is that New York’s awful laws prevent most of the exchanges from being available to them due to the bit license.
I think this is pretty ballsy. Also is clear Paxful is paving its way to exclusively become a lightning network payments app only. Good for them.

This is the way. That’s why I use the only 5 trusted exchanges to buy and then send to my wallet:
1) Kraken
2) Swan
3) Paxful
4) Strike
5) Cash App
All five have cool ‘Bitcoin maximalist’ CEO’s that openly recommend to NOT keep you BTC on the exchanges. And they are the only ones with real proof of reserves.

If you want to run an ethical and honest exchange this move is very understandable.
As a Paxful user, I’d say that 95% of trade on Paxful is Bitcoin. All trades involve only Bitcoin and fiat or stablecoins.
Altcoins are not of much interest for Paxful users. I can appreciate the reasons but this is a good PR move in my opinion.
Yet they will continue to sell USDT and USDC. Yes they are centralised. The entire purpose of bitcoin was to build a trustless system of money. Instead we’ve all decided for some reasons to hinge our entire industry on the backs of trusting a bunch of random people who are in my opinion worse than banks.

Scams are a lucrative business. It takes a great deal of honesty and clear morality to give up the potential for profit, for the greater good of society. I commend Ray & the Paxful team for leading the charge.

As a very critical user of Paxful during the blocksize wars, during the last many years since, I am very happy to see this change. As Bitcoiners we should welcome these kinds of companies back with open arms and continue to encourage this pro-bitcoin ethos both loudly and with our business.
