Bitcoin miners emit no carbon. [Bitcoin is the singular solution](https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/10m07uq/why_i_think_bitcoin_could_be_a_key_to_saving_the/j606yk1/) to mitigate emissions and scale renewables. I’ve been 8 years in the energy industry. This guy is unqualified to testify on the subject. Well done to Senator Lummis for calling him out. There’s never been an innovation as impactful across as many industries as bitcoin. We’d be damned fools not to capitalize on a flexible, interruptible, location agnostic energy consumer of last resort that can directly subsidize and lower energy costs, mitigate methane emissions, monetize curtailment, stabilize grids, provide energy access to remote places and allow us to expand sustainable energy infrastructure.
If anything is wasteful, it’s the energy expenditure to protect the US dollar through proof of war. US military is the world’s largest industrial pollutant. Unlike bitcoin, 8 billion people do not have permissionless access to it. It only enables [theft and imperialist terrorism](https://twitter.com/javedatahir/status/1624411170785427456) against people in less developed nations. Unlike bitcoin, even people in the US cannot save the value of their labor in it before getting [robbed by the man with the printer](https://twitter.com/LordFusitua/status/1580781002733277185).
If the guy is not understanding why energy is important for the security of the network, or why having a tie to physical reality makes people use resources to attack bitcoin, then this guy has no credibility.
Regardless of your political stance in the U.S. (full transparency: I lean pretty left), Lummis is quite well versed on bitcoin and blockchain technology. I think in this day and age, ALL politicians need to step up their game to have a more thorough understanding of what’s going on in this space.
Big slow clap for Cynthia. Sniffing out and exposing bull shit in real time. 😝
If PoW is wasteful because you can just replace it with PoS then so is his “blockchain technology” because you can just replace it with a database
Alterburg has the misconception that you can have “blockchain technology” without Proof Of Work, which is false.
As long as you have this false view, Bitcoin is “wasting energy.”

he says PoW is not essential for blockchain, but PoW is an essential component of Bitcoin, and Bitcoin is essential for blockchain! Absolute fool.
Senator Lummis is really great
‘it’s better to use the energy and produce something of value’ – all that needed to be said, amazing work Sen Lummis
Unbelievable :’)
Mr Fathead with glasses regularly answers questions which were not asked, instead of answering the actual question. Never trust people who do that.
She gets it.
Bureaucrats like that guy who know better how to use energy than you do—they want control. Amazes me how quickly he flips the discussion back to how the government should regulate and choose uses of energy
Must be hard for democrats watch all their politicians work against bitcoin while republicans are giving master classes about it. But hey what would I know, world has 7 years before exploding and only democrats know how to fix it
Bitcoin doesn’t need the support of any politician.
Bitcoin is independent of any political party, or country.
Knowledgeable politician is better than ignorant politician, but not-a-politician will always be better than a politician. So while relatively speaking, she is better than other politicians, she still represents an evil.
We use useless pennies. It has no value unless it rolled in coin rolls and returned to the bank.
How much energy it costs to mine metal, transport to retailer, return it to banks (coin machines) for pennies and nickels? How many coins are lost in this process when Elon Musk keeps saying there is Nickel shortage to make EV batteries. And, as if there is no energy lost in transacting in fiat currency. What bull?
I love Senator Lummis. We should have a coin, the “Lummis” named after her.
Flawless victory
FATALITY
That guy conflated appliance energy efficiency standards with just using electricity. That’s really fucking stupid, and dangerous.
Nebraska gang ,gang
Interesting to see my state rep discussing Bitcoin mining.
Boss!
