I used to buy and sell gold many years ago. I should get into it again, it is a fun hobby.
This guy should just go to apmex.com or a reputable gold dealer already and stop buying off the street. You CAN buy below the spot price of gold this way.
Buy some Canadian Maple Leaves or Gold Eagles for crying out loud. If you’ve got $4,000 to drop on some sketchy street dealer, you can buy ounces or 1/4ths.

Gold isn’t the problem, it’s people’s stupidity. Same way with bitcoin if you get one single character wrong of the sending address, kiss your bitcoin goodbye. But then you’ll say it’s not a problem with bitcoin, but with people being stupid. Btw I like both gold and bitcoin.
I doubt there is less scam going on with Bitcoin/Crypto compared to gold trades
